Privacy Statement



South Western Federal Credit Union is committed to protecting the confidentiality and security of all members' accounts. We take our obligation to keep information about you and your accounts secure and confidential very seriously. Where appropriate we will use security-encoding techniques to protect against unauthorized access to personal records, ensure accuracy and integrity of data and protect your confidentiality. This notice describes the privacy policy and practices followed by South Western Federal Credit Union.

Accuracy of Information

Every effort is made to ensure that our records of your information are complete and correct. If you ever find that your account information is incomplete inaccurate or not current please call or write us at the telephone number or address listed on your account statement. We will correct any wrong information as quickly as possible.

Collection of Information

We collect only the information necessary to deliver quality products and services to our members. In the course of providing services to you we gather information about you in the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications or other forms;
  • Information about your transactions with us or our affiliates;
  • Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies; and
  • Information obtained when verifying information you provide on applications or other forms (this may be from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions).

Disclosure of Information to Parties that provide Services for us

We do not sell names or other information about our members or former members to third parties. We are permitted to disclose certain information to parties that provide services for us such as companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions, which we have, joint marketing agreements. We may also disclose certain information to financial service providers that perform services on our behalf such as insurance and mortgage services. These companies act on our behalf and are required to keep the information that we provide to them confidential. All vendors and service providers sign confidentiality agreements with South Western Federal Credit Union that prohibit them from using member information for any purpose other than that for which they have been contracted. We will share information only when necessary to administer the products and services we provide (for example with credit bureaus) or when required to do so by the state and federal government. In accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, we report to the three national credit bureaus.

Information on Public Records

You may be aware that businesses can obtain certain consumer information, such as that related to mortgage loans, which is a matter of public record and available to anyone from the County Recorder's Office. Unfortunately, companies to market their products and services directly to you often use this information. At times, they also make reference to the credit union, which may imply that they obtained the information from us. The lenders' names as well as certain details of the loans are included in the public records, and that is where they obtain their data.

Employee Access

Credit Union employees do have access to your information in order to provide service to you. However, our employees' access is restricted to their need to know such information or as necessary to conduct a transaction or respond to your inquiries. All employees are trained to respect member privacy. No one except our employees has access to the Credit Union computer system and records.


South Western Federal Credit Union recognizes the importance of educating our future members. The online financial products that is offered through our children's web page is designed toward children. We do not solicit or collect data from children. We recognize that protecting children's identity and online privacy is important.

Option to Opt Out

You may elect not to receive marketing and advertising materials from South Western Federal Credit Union. You may make this request in person, by telephone (800.899.8296), by e-mail, or by writing to us at 901 E. Whittier Blvd., La Habra, CA 90631. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your requests are followed.

How to Remove Your Name from Credit Offers

If you prefer not to receive pre-approved credit solicitations, you may call 1/888/5OPT-OUT (1/888/567-8688). By removing your name, you will no longer receive unsolicited credit offers from SWFCU or other businesses such as credit card companies, department stores and banks.

Web Access Security

If you visit our web site to browse or to read or receive information like statements, or other documents. We will ask for the personal information we need to conduct business with you and administer our products and services.

We will protect your personal information. The Credit Union will maintain strong security controls to ensure that personal information in our files and computers is protected. Where appropriate, we will use security encoding or other techniques to protect against unauthorized access to personal records, ensure accuracy and integrity of data, and protect your confidentiality.
